Knockout Beauty: Fall 2016 Hair & Makeup Trends

Knockout Beauty Blog by Coach Jessie!

There's a chill in the air, and the leaves are beginning to scatter all over the ground. The kids have all gone back to school, and the dog days of summer are a faint memory. That's right, fall is finally here!

Fall happens to be my absolute favorite time of year! I love everything about fall, football season, playoff baseball, the smell of chili in the crockpot filling up my house on a Sunday afternoon. My family and I enjoy campfires with hooded sweatshirts on, roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. You can find us taking trips to the pumpkin patch, drinking warm apple cider, and carving pumpkins on Halloween! The best part of fall for me however is, the fashion and beauty trends! Skinny jeans, with a pair of ankle booties, matched with your favorite scarf, and a pumpkin latte in hand you are ready to go!

Most of you know not only am I an intern coach at KO, but also a hair stylist and makeup artist. I have a passion for beautifying the people of Downers Grove one head at a time! I'd like to share with you, my fellow Knockouts just a few of the top fall hair and makeup trends of 2016!

Let's begin with hair...
"Sombre", or subtle ombré is one of this seasons hottest hair color trends. Sombre is a softer version of the hair trend we all know as ombré. It is flattering on blondes and brunettes, and is the best option for anyone looking to deepen their base color without making too drastic of a change. image2
Another color trend clients are asking for this fall is "bronde" (brown blonde). Bronde is similar to ombré, as it is just as soft. As a "bronde" you simply darken your base, add a subtle lowlite in conjunction with a golden honey highlight. We're not talking chunky Kelly Clarkson highlights circa 2002! These highlights are soft, subtle, very natural. Some refer to these highlights as "babylights", as they are similar to that of a child.

Lets talk hair cuts for a minute now! Trending big time for fall is a mid-length cut with soft, subtle layers, with the length hitting just below the collar bone. This happens to be an ideal cut for those of you growing out the summertime "bob" or "lob" (long bob). When you have fine hair, this is a great length. The blunt line along the bottom helps the hair to look fuller. To style, simply part down the center and add soft bends or curls with your curling iron. Alternate each direction, then simply shake your hair loose! Blow dry with a sea salt texture spray, finish style with a light hold volumizing hair spray.

Another popular cut this fall is similar to the previous hair cut in length, however it is more "shag-like". A mid-length shag with lots of layers can be flattering on most hair types. Pronounced face framing layers bring texture and movement to this cut. Depending on your specific hair type, most can style this cut with a sea salt or beach spray and some scrunching. This cut with a center part or even bangs is right on trend this fall!

Time to discuss makeup trends for 2016! The first trend is something I'm thrilled about! Finally, after a few too many seasons of over contouring, we're back to having skin that looks more like SKIN! Goals for your complexion this fall should be a somewhat dewy texture with soft, slightly flushed cheeks. Please eliminate an excessively shimmery highlight! Your highlight should be subtle. You can achieve this by using an illuminating cc cream paired with a little blush.

My second favorite makeup trend for fall 2016 is an oxblood or vampire lip! That's right you former grunge loving, flannel wearing 90's teenagers a deep vampy lip is where it's at! In the past, oxbloods and berry like colours had a reddish hue. This fall, you want a matte lip with a more purplish undertone. Paired with a clean, fresh face, darken defined brows, and your best mascara, you are sure to be noticed!
