Coach Jess’ Favorite Things Jan-June 2015

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a favorite things blog, possible almost a year. I’ve recently had some request from readers to bring this series back, so I decided to comply a list of my favorite things from 2015 so far. We have beauty, planner items, health stuff, food and more!

1. Plum Paper Planner. So my new addiction is planners and stickers. I found Plum Paper Planner on Etsy in April and ordered right away. This planner has helped me get so much more organized and stay on top of the millions of things I have going on at work and home. I will do a full review in an upcoming post, but I just had to tell my KO Community how awesome this planner is. AND they were kind enough to give me a coupon code BOXING10 for all my KO’s to get 10% Off a Plum Paper Planner purchase.

2. Planner Stickers. You can’t have an awesome planner without planner stickers. Enter the secret world of planner stickers on Etsy! I’m in love! While I don’t make extensive scrapbook like spreads, I do love using tons of functional stickers to keep me organized. Here are a few of my favorite shops and all of them generously gave us a promo code so time to start shopping!

     a. One Orange Snowflake Use Promo Code KNOCKOUT to get 15% off orders $10 or more
     b. Oh Hello Stationary Co Use Promo Code KOTIVATION10 to get 10% off your order
     c. PlannerKate1 Use Promo Code KNOCKOUT15 to get 15%
     d. Oh So Pretty Planner
     e. Plantastic Planning Use Promo Code 15OFF to get 15% off your order

3. Fresh Thyme. This new grocery store in Downers Grove is amazing! Great prices, friendly staff, awesome prices and a good selection of fresh produce, meats and bulk products. It’s nice to be able to shop for good food and not spend your whole paycheck.

4. Joico Moisture Recovery. This shampoo and conditioner duo is amazing! Thanks to my KO Jessie who brought these in for me to try I now have soft hair without a heavy oily scalp!

5. Bio Ionic Stylewinder Curling wand. While I don’t often get all glammed up (I don’t need to be super fancy to train students at my boxing club) when I do, I like to take the time to add a little curl to my hair. This curling wand was recommended to me from Jessie again and I love it! It’s super easy to use, heats up so fast and doesn’t fry my hair!

6. It’s A 10 Leave in. After trying a few various products this past year, I’ve come back to this one. I just love how light weight it is and how soft it leaves my hair…bonus it’s cruelty free

7. CityFlats Hotel in Holland, MI. March 27th, 2015 was an amazing day when my now fiancé Matt swept me away to MI for a weekend getaway that ended up being our engagement. We stayed at this hotel and it was so cool! The décor was trendy, earthy and unique, the staff was amazing, food was great and it was the perfect place to stay for our special weekend away. I love my amazing fiancé, my beautiful ring and our future together.

8. Moscow Mules. Simply put…best cocktail ever! Tito’s Vodka, Goose Island Spicy Ginger Beer and lime…yes please!

9. Favorite Music. Chase Rice “Ride”, Colt Ford “Crank It Up”, Mark Ronson “Uptown Funk”

10. Rice Milk. In an effort to go more diary free for digestive reasons, I finally found a milk substitute I like…Vanilla Rice Milk. Similar to the flavor and texture of skim milk…love it!

11. Kabuki. Sushi, Sushi, Sushi…Yummy, Yummy, Yummy! Kabuki in Glendale Heights on North Ave has the best sushi ever! You must try it!

12. Bdellium Brushes. Matt got me new purple make up brushes for our engagement (#bestfianceever) by Bdellium tools. They are awesome! So soft and um…purple! But seriously I love how they apply makeup and blend out eyeshadow and blush.

13. Blackhawks wining the 2015 Stanley Cup. Enough Said! Check out Matt’s photos from the Hawks Rally!

14. Starbucks Trenta Black Iced Tea Lemonade sweetened. I am a sweet tea freak and since I don’t live in the South and can’t get real Southern Sweet Tea this drink satisfies my need for a sugary sweet iced tea on a hot summer day (if we ever start to have a summer for more than 1 day per week)

15. Washi tape. You can’t have a planner and sticker addiction without washi tape. You can use it in you planner, on paper, to cover just about everything. It’s awesome!

16. Iliza Schlesinger. Girl power comedy! Love this girl’s stand up! So funny and so much truth lol!

17. Frixion pens. Well by now you can see that my planner/office supply addiction runs deep, because it’s time to talk pens! These colorful erasable pens rock! We aren’t talking the shitty ones from the 90’s in blue and black that smeared everywhere. These come in tons of colors and actually completely erase!

18. Matt moving in & Decluttering. My fiancé and his son moved in the beginning of June, so it was time to declutter. It was so nice to clear out and pitch stuff that I haven’t used in forever. More space, less junk = more peaceful living environment! Check out my blog post on what I learned during this experience.

19. Frontera Roasted Corn Salsa with Donkey No Salt Tortilla Chips. Yummy! Love these chips and this salsa! And no onions in the salsa makes my tummy happy!

20. The Low FODMAP Diet. I have some digestive issues that cause bloating and stomach aches, but luckily I no longer suffer from Ulcerative Colitis. My GI doctor recommended I follow a low FODMAP diet to help keep my symptoms at bay. My KO Denise recommended this book to me and it’s awesome! While I don’t 100% follow the low FODMAP plan, this has helped me make food choices that agree with my body better and there are tons of yummy, easy recipes in it too! A few of my fav recipes in the book are: Chili Salmon & Cilantro Salad and Pancetta Pasta.

21. Lunette Menstrual Cup. Yes I know this sounds weird, but this thing is awesome! It’s safe and cleaner than tampons or pads. It does take some getting use to when it comes to using it but it makes that time of the month so much more pleasant!

22. Kindara App. After doing lots of research about hormonal birth control and deciding to have my IUD removed, I needed a more natural way to prevent pregnancy (Matt and I do not want kids). I discovered the Fertility Awareness Method and this awesome app that makes charting easy. I am very anti-hormonal birth control at this point and feel super empowered now that I understand my body better. I highly recommend this book and app for anyone looking to avoid or achieve pregnancy.

23. GetGlutes. I love this training program and have been doing it from 17 months now. Sometimes when you are a coach you just want someone else to tell you what to do and Bret Contreras’s GetGlutes Program does just that. I love the focus on glute development to strength and power and having a well thought out routine monthly that I can do.

24. Method Dish Soap in Sea Minerals Scent. Again in an effort to go cruelty free I needed to find a dish soap that was effective and didn’t test on animals and I found it with Method. Bonus…it smells great!

25. iPhone 6 and Spigen Clear Case. I love everything Apple and Steve Jobs, so I was pretty pumped to get my iPhone 6 in January. I love the sleek design so I didn’t want to cover it with a bulky case. This Spigen Clear Case is cheap, slim, secure and allows you to see the design of the phone.

I’m sure there are more than 25 things that have been my favorites the past 6 months, but the items here are ones that I totally love. If you are interested in me doing a favorites blog on a monthly or bimonthly basis, please let me know by commenting on this post. Also if you have any questions about the products and things I mentioned please don't hesitate to ask!
